Gradings

Whitsunday Kyokushin hold grading twice a year and these are carried out in accordance with the grading syllabus which you will be provided with upon joining the club.
Students commence training wearing a white belt.
Through consistent training and hard work they will then aim to advance through the different belts/levels.
These levels are called KYU. The belts follow the order orange, blue, yellow, green and brown, (10th kyu to 1st kyu). Each coloured belt has two levels with the higher level being denoted by a black tip on the belt.
After achieving 1st kyu students will then train towards their Shodan (black belt).
Black belts also vary in degrees with 1st Dan denoted by one gold stripe, 2nd Dan by two and so on.
Junior grade belts will have a white stripe throughout the belt as opposed to senior grade which will be a solid colour.
The final decision as to whether a student is ready to grade rests with the instructor. Participation in a grading is earned through regular attendance, dedication to training, stamina and strength as well as the demonstration of correct dojo etiguette.

Etiquette
Kyokushin Karate is based on a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard trainig. Courtesy and respect form a large part of the dojo and all students should respect the Senpai-Kohai system.
Students are expected to uphold the philosophy and mottos of Mas Oyama and follo the dojo-kun and etiquette at all times. Dojo etiquette is a way to honour the founder of our style and shows respect to the Sensei that teaches us. It must be adhered to inside the dojo by everyone, regardless of age or grade at all times. Green belts (4th kyu) is the first level of becoming a senior student. From this level up students will now commence learning to : - Start and finish sessions - Take warm ups including stretching - Demonstrate and take the count in Japanese for Kihon - Take students through some kata, correcting techniques and stances Possession of a senior grade (especially black belt) is not the time to become complacent. Do not stop your Kyokushin Karate journey here, you must continue to train hard and strive to achieve higher levels of skill whilst sharing your knowledge and inspiring other students. |
