Off to All Japan Championship
Kyokushin Proserpine sends students to as many tournaments as possible locally, nationally and also internationally. This not only helps them to become stronger and better competitors, but also allows them to mix with other students from other dojo's all around the world.
This year Whitsunday Kyokushin had the opportunity to send five students to the All Japan Junior Grand Championship in Osaka Japan. Two fighters from the Proserpine dojo in 2017, one girl fighter in 2018. Also another two fighters compete local Japan (Toyama prefecture) tournament in 2019. All of our students were proud to represent their country in such a high standard tournament. Although not gaining a placing they did themselves and our dojos very proud. As well as competing in an international tournament they also had the opportunity to train in the Japanese dojo's. |
Kids Matter
To learn real traditional Kyokushin Karate kids will learn what they have to do to overcome all difficulties. Though training is hard it is also fun and learning lessons that karate teaches will help build self-confidence, respect and discipline.
We recommend children are at least 5 years of age before enrolling in a class. They will need to be able to listen to instructions and have the motor skills to be able to punch and kick. Martial arts has many benefits for children including : Physical An hour or more of physical exercise a day is recommended for children. Exercises will include cardio and muscle strengthening exercises. Responsibility Children need to turn up to class on time and regularly. They need to present in a clean uniform (GI) and will learn to tie their own belt. They will learn that only by paying attention in class and focusing on proper techniques will they advance through belts. Self Esteem Kids are grouped in order of grade, (belt) level not popularity or age, as a result kids mix with other children of different ages and learn to communicate with their peers. Self defence techniques can give a shy child more confidence. Concentration Karate involves complex movements, kicks, punches and blocks and requires a great deal of concentration. Respect Respect is extremely important in karate with respect covering your instructor, higher grades, your uniform and yourself. Training starts from coming in the dojo, taking off your shoes, lining them neatly at the entrance and greeting other students. After training all students are expected to clean the floor prior to leaving. - All of these carry over into the child's life with some students showing improvements in behaviour and school grades.
